I am a planner, always have been. It’s hardwired in me to have everything ahead of time (i.e. buying winter clothes for my kids in July). If you took a look at my planner you’d see that I have it filled out for the entire new year starting in August, with birthdays, anniversaries, school meetings-- you name it--penciled in on the appropriate days.
So, while Halloween is a good 60 days away, I am out searching for a costume. This year I am trying to work with what I’ve got. When Kokobean was very little I made an impractical eBay bid on a Tom Arma leopard costume that was entirely too big (which I would have known if I had READ the whole description). In my defense, it was one of those Las Vegas moments when I was outbid and could not stop hitting the button. I’ve since voluntarily entered rehab for this behavior.
That darling leopard costume has been hanging around for 3 years now (because no other sucker would buy it from me on eBay when I tried to sell it) and I’ve desperately wanted to use it. Problem solved, Bubba will wear it this year (even if it’s a little snug, I am stuffing this kid into that darn costume). Therefore, I am looking for a matching leopard costume for Little Miss (because let's face it, in a few years matching will be impossible when she's begging to be a princess EVERY year).
Searching for a costume has led me to this post, how much is too much when it comes to Halloween?
This one had me at hello:

I mean come on! Are you kidding me! I am drooling…until I see the price: $125.00 (she said she’d sell it to me for $85). Is it just me or is that insane? My kid is going to wear this for a total of maybe 3 hrs. That’s about $42 an hour. I love it, I mean I REALLY love it, but…Pass.
Then there is this one: Gymboree (of which I am a fan, especially the sale sections).
Cute, not as cute as the previous one, but again, the price is ridonculous. You can’t buy the whole set in one swoop—heck that would be too easy. The dress is one price, ears and tail another and the tights yet another (we’re looking at cool weather here for the big day so we’ve got to have the tights). All in, this one comes in at $67.25. Ok, no…
Now I scour eBay and there are a few cute ones, but nothing jumps out at me.
Until I come to this one:
It’s cute, I like it, but will those feathers make a huge mess and drive Little Miss absolutely crazy? Probably. For $28 though it’s sounding more like a winner.
Man, I wish I could sew. My mother and grandmother made all of my costumes as a child and they were incredible.
So, give me your opinion. Would you spend more than $28 on a Halloween costume?
